Honda has officially brought back the legendary CB400 Super Four with a completely new generation motorcycle. The new CB400 SUPER FOUR E-Clutch was unveiled in Japan on August 21, 2026, bringing back the famous 400cc inline-four formula with modern technology.
New 399cc Inline-Four Engine
The motorcycle uses a new 399cc liquid-cooled DOHC inline-four engine. Honda has focused on strong low- and mid-range performance while maintaining the smooth, high-revving character that makes four-cylinder engines special.
Unlike many modern middleweight bikes that use parallel-twin engines, the CB400 continues with a four-cylinder layout, giving it a distinctive engine note and smoother power delivery.
E-Clutch Technology
The biggest highlight is Honda's E-Clutch system. It automatically controls the clutch during starting, stopping and gear changes, making the motorcycle easier to ride in traffic and everyday conditions.
Riders can still operate the clutch manually whenever they want, so the system does not remove the traditional manual riding experience.
Modern Features
The new CB400 gets a 5-inch full-colour TFT display with Honda RoadSync smartphone connectivity. It also features a newly developed chassis and suspension setup designed for comfortable everyday riding as well as enjoyable riding on winding roads.
The styling remains that of a classic naked motorcycle, but the technology underneath is completely modern.
Price and Availability
In Japan, the new CB400 SUPER FOUR E-Clutch is priced at 998,800 yen, including tax. Honda is targeting annual domestic sales of around 4,600 units.
Honda says the motorcycle will mainly be offered in Japan and other Asian markets. There is currently no confirmed official India launch announcement, so an Indian launch should not be considered confirmed.
The return of the CB400 Super Four is important because Honda has chosen to bring back the inline-four middleweight at a time when twin-cylinder engines dominate this segment. With E-Clutch and modern electronics added to its classic four-cylinder character, the new CB400 gives the legendary name a fresh start in 2026.
