Electric motorcycles are getting faster and more extreme, but the new Stark VARG SM takes that idea to another level. The road-legal electric supermoto combines 80 hp with a weight of just 124.5 kg, making it one of the most unusual performance motorcycles in its segment.
Built by Swedish manufacturer Stark Future, the VARG SM uses a 7.2 kWh battery and an electric motor capable of producing up to 80 hp. Stark claims an impressive 914 Nm of rear-wheel torque, giving the lightweight motorcycle instant acceleration.
The numbers become even more interesting when its weight is considered. At 124.5 kg, the VARG SM is extremely light for a road-legal motorcycle with this level of power. Stark says the bike has been designed to deliver the agility of a supermoto while still being suitable for everyday road use.
For range, Stark claims up to 118 km of mixed urban riding, while highway range is listed at around 79 km. The bike comes with a 3.3 kW portable charger, and charging time is around two hours using a 240V supply.
The VARG SM also gets premium hardware, including KYB suspension and Brembo brakes, along with a 320 mm front disc and a four-piston radial caliper. Its 17-inch wheels and supermoto-focused chassis are designed to make the bike quick and agile through corners.
Another interesting part is the bike's electronics. Riders can customize power delivery and engine braking, while the motorcycle also features built-in navigation, route recording and over-the-air software updates.
The Stark VARG SM shows how different high-performance electric motorcycles can be from conventional petrol bikes. Instead of chasing a huge battery and massive size, Stark has focused on low weight, instant power and supermoto-style handling.
With 80 hp packed into a 124.5 kg road-legal motorcycle, the VARG SM is certainly one of the most extreme electric motorcycles currently on the market.
