Kawasaki has expanded its adventure motorcycle lineup with the new 2027 KLE650, a middleweight adventure tourer designed for long-distance journeys, daily riding and occasional off-road exploration. Revealed on October 27, 2026, the new motorcycle joins the recently introduced KLE500 and brings a larger engine, long-travel suspension and modern rider assistance features.
The KLE650 will be available in standard and higher-spec SE versions. International sales are expected to begin in April 2027, although Kawasaki has not confirmed an India launch.
Kawasaki KLE650: Engine and Performance
The new KLE650 uses an updated 649cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine with electronic throttle valves and revised intake and exhaust systems. Kawasaki has tuned the engine to deliver stronger low-to-mid-range torque while maintaining smooth performance at higher engine speeds.
According to Kawasaki's US specifications, the engine produces:
- Maximum power: 70 hp at 8,600 rpm
- Peak torque: 64 Nm at 7,500 rpm
- Transmission: Six-speed gearbox
- Engine configuration: Liquid-cooled parallel-twin
These figures give the KLE650 a useful balance between highway performance and manageable power delivery on uneven roads. An assist-and-slipper clutch also helps reduce clutch lever effort and control rear-wheel movement during aggressive downshifts.
Adventure-Ready Design and Suspension
The KLE650 features rally-inspired bodywork, a tall front cowl and a compact steel trellis frame. Its larger body panels give it a more substantial appearance than the smaller KLE500.
The motorcycle uses a 21-inch front wheel and a 17-inch rear wheel, a combination commonly found on adventure bikes designed to handle mixed road conditions. Long-travel suspension consists of a 43mm inverted front fork with approximately 210mm of travel and a rear Uni-Trak suspension system with adjustable preload.
Braking is handled by twin 300mm front discs and a 230mm rear disc. The bike also features ABS with an off-road-oriented selectable function, allowing riders to adapt the system to suitable riding conditions.
Features and Technology
Kawasaki has equipped both KLE650 versions with electronic cruise control and Kawasaki Traction Control (KTRC). Cruise control can make long highway journeys more comfortable, while traction control helps manage rear-wheel spin on slippery surfaces.
The standard model includes an LCD instrument display, LED lighting, smartphone connectivity and an adjustable windscreen.
The KLE650 SE adds several premium features:
- Colour TFT instrument display
- Up-and-down quickshifter
- Tubeless spoked wheels
- Metal-reinforced handguards
- Larger aluminium skid plate
- USB Type-C charging socket
- Taller windscreen
These upgrades make the SE more appealing to riders planning longer tours or carrying additional equipment.
Price and International Launch
In the United States, Kawasaki lists the 2027 KLE650 ABS at $8,799, while the KLE650 SE ABS starts at $9,999. UK pricing has also been announced, with the standard model priced at £7,499 and the SE at £8,899.
Both versions are scheduled to reach international dealers from April 2027. Prices and equipment may vary by market.
Kawasaki has not officially announced an India launch or Indian pricing for the KLE650. Indian buyers will need to wait for further confirmation from the company.
Can the KLE650 Become a Strong Adventure Bike Rival?
The KLE650 enters a competitive middleweight adventure segment where riders increasingly want motorcycles that combine touring comfort with genuine all-road capability. Its 649cc twin-cylinder engine, 21-inch front wheel, long-travel suspension and standard cruise control give it a promising starting point.
However, real-world comfort, off-road handling, fuel economy and overall weight will ultimately determine how well it performs against established rivals.
For now, the 2027 Kawasaki KLE650 looks like an important addition to Kawasaki's adventure lineup, offering riders a larger and more touring-focused alternative to the KLE500.
