BMW Motorrad is preparing to enter the highly competitive middleweight naked-bike segment with a new streetfighter. The company has already released a teaser, with the global unveiling scheduled for October 1, 2026.
BMW has not officially confirmed the name yet, but the bike is widely expected to be called the BMW F 450 R. It will be based on the same 450cc platform used by the F 450 GS adventure motorcycle.
Streetfighter Design
The F 450 R gets a much more aggressive road-focused design than its adventure sibling. The teaser shows a sharp fuel tank, USD front forks and a compact underbelly exhaust that gives the motorcycle a muscular streetfighter appearance.
The roadster is also expected to have a more compact and agile setup than the F 450 GS. A shorter rake and lower stance could make it easier to handle in city traffic while also improving its cornering ability.
Engine and Performance
The motorcycle is expected to use BMW's 420cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine. In the F 450 GS, this engine produces around 48 hp and 43 Nm of torque.
BMW could make changes to the gearing and engine mapping for the F 450 R to provide stronger low-end response and quicker acceleration. This would make the bike better suited to everyday street riding.
The motorcycle is also expected to get BMW's Easy Ride Clutch (ERC) system, which is designed to make low-speed riding and gear changes easier.
Features and Technology
The F 450 R is expected to come with several modern features, including:
- 6.5-inch TFT display
- Smartphone connectivity and navigation
- Multiple riding modes
- Traction control
- Bidirectional quickshifter
- USD front suspension
These features would give the F 450 R a strong equipment package for the segment.
Why It Could Be Important for India
BMW recently discontinued the G 310 R and G 310 GS in India, leaving the brand without an entry-level motorcycle in this category. The F 450 R could eventually fill that gap if BMW brings it to the Indian market.
The motorcycle is expected to sit around the ₹4.5 lakh ex-showroom mark, although BMW has not officially announced Indian pricing yet.
At that price point, it could compete with motorcycles such as the KTM 390 Duke, Aprilia Tuono 457 and Kawasaki Z400, depending on its final specifications and positioning.
What to Expect
The middleweight naked-bike segment is becoming increasingly competitive, and BMW's entry could make it even more interesting. A compact twin-cylinder motorcycle with around 48 hp, modern electronics and BMW's premium positioning could attract riders looking for something different from the established options.
The official global unveiling of the new BMW motorcycle is scheduled for October 1, 2026, when BMW is expected to reveal its final specifications, features and pricing details.
