Electric Motorcycles Are Making a Comeback in 2026 — Is the Global Market Finally Turning?

The global electric motorcycle market is showing fresh signs of growth in 2026 after a slowdown over the past few years.

According to the latest industry data, global electric motorcycle volumes have increased 18.6% year-on-year in 2026, reaching around 6.62 million units so far. The market also set a new record in 2025, when sales reached 10.17 million units.

This renewed growth is being seen across several regions. India's electric two-wheeler sales are up 30.6%, while Europe is growing by around 20.3%. North America is also showing strong momentum, with electric two-wheeler volumes up 27%.

Why Are Electric Motorcycles Growing Again?

One of the biggest reasons is that electric two-wheelers are becoming more practical and competitive.

Manufacturers are improving battery range, charging speeds and overall performance, while established motorcycle companies are also investing more heavily in electric models.

India is a good example of this shift. Traditional manufacturers such as TVS and Bajaj are now competing strongly in the electric two-wheeler market alongside specialist EV companies.

The growth is also spreading beyond the traditional Asian markets. Africa, ASEAN and Latin America are recording particularly strong increases, suggesting that electric two-wheelers are becoming a more global trend rather than remaining concentrated in a few countries.

Is 2026 the Turning Point?

Electric motorcycles still face major challenges, especially charging infrastructure, battery cost, range and weight. Petrol motorcycles also remain more convenient for many long-distance riders.

However, the latest numbers show that demand is moving in the right direction.

If battery technology continues to improve and prices become more competitive, electric motorcycles could move from being a niche product to a much bigger part of the global motorcycle industry.

For now, 2026 is shaping up as one of the strongest years yet for electric two-wheelers—and the comeback may have only just begun.
