The 2026 MotoAmerica Thriller: 4 Riders, 1 Crown, and No Room for Mistakes!

2026 MotoAmerica championship battle with four riders fighting for the title

The 2026 MotoAmerica Quad Lock Superbike Championship has reached its final showdown, and there is almost no room left for mistakes. Four riders are still mathematically alive for the title, and the championship will be decided over just three races at New Jersey Motorsports Park.

Even more interesting, none of the four title contenders has won a MotoAmerica Superbike championship before. That means a brand-new champion is guaranteed to be crowned this weekend.

At the centre of the fight is Sean Dylan Kelly, who arrives at the finale with a 26-point advantage. But behind him, Bobby Fong, Mathew Scholtz and JD Beach are all still in the hunt. With 75 points available across the three final races, everything can change very quickly.

The Current Standings: One Small Mistake Can Change Everything

Sean Dylan Kelly leads the championship on his BMW M 1000 RR with 279 points. Bobby Fong sits second on 253 points, while Mathew Scholtz has 233 and JD Beach has 230.

Position Rider Points Gap
1 Sean Dylan Kelly 279 —
2 Bobby Fong 253 26
3 Mathew Scholtz 233 46
4 JD Beach 230 49

The numbers explain just how tight this finale could become. Kelly has the advantage, but Fong is only 26 points behind with 75 points still available. Scholtz and Beach have a bigger gap to close, but both remain mathematically alive.

Kelly has also been remarkably consistent this season. He has finished on the podium in 13 of his 15 races and has scored at least one point in every Superbike race so far. That consistency is a major reason he enters the final weekend at the top of the standings.

Fong, however, is arriving with serious momentum. He has won three of his last seven starts and six podiums during that stretch, including a victory in Race 2 at Circuit of The Americas that reduced Kelly's championship advantage to 26 points.

New Jersey Motorsports Park: The Final Battlefield

The championship now moves to New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, New Jersey, for the September 25–27 finale.

The Thunderbolt Circuit is only 2.25 miles long but features 13 turns, making it a technical challenge for the riders. Its fast, flowing final sector leads onto a half-mile front straight, while the opening corner creates opportunities for aggressive passes.

That combination can make NJMP unpredictable. Riders need speed, but they also need patience and precision. A small mistake in one corner can cost valuable positions, and with the championship being decided over three races, every point matters. Late-September weather could add another variable as well.

Three Races. One Champion.

The final weekend is not simply another round of the championship. It is a triple-header, meaning the riders will have three opportunities to gain or lose points.

Kelly's position is relatively straightforward: he needs to protect his advantage and stay close to his main rivals. Fong needs to outscore Kelly by at least 27 points across the weekend to take the championship outright, while Scholtz and Beach face an even bigger points challenge.

That is what makes this finale so interesting. One crash, one mechanical problem, a bad start or a brilliant final-lap pass could completely change the championship picture.

And because none of the four title contenders has previously won the MotoAmerica Superbike crown, New Jersey is guaranteed to produce a first-time champion.

Who Will Take the 2026 MotoAmerica Crown?

Sean Dylan Kelly has the points advantage and the consistency, but Bobby Fong is coming into the finale with strong recent form. Mathew Scholtz and JD Beach are further back, but with three races and 75 points still available, the championship is not mathematically over.

The only thing certain is that the final three races will decide everything.

Will Kelly hold on to his championship lead and finally claim his first MotoAmerica Superbike title? Or can one of the challengers produce a huge weekend and turn the championship upside down?
